
Patriots Squeeze Past Ducks 11-10

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 11-10 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday night.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Michael Hernandez and an RBI single by Josh Pressley.
The Ducks cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk to Kraig Binick.
Somerset extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run by Yusuf Carter (6) and an RBI double by Fernando Cortez to make the score 5-1.
Freddie Thon hit a solo home run (6) in the top of the fourth inning to close the lead to 5-2.
The Patriots answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run double by Cortez.
Ray Navarrete hit a solo home run (24) in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 7-3.
Another run came home for Somerset in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice that allowed Carter to reach safely.
The Ducks scored two in the top of the sixth on an error and a double play that made the score 9-5.
A Jeff Nettles RBI single and an error on the play plated two more runs for Somerset in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 11-5 advantage.
Long Island made it 11-10 on an RBI single by Thon in the seventh and RBI singles by House and Thon and a two run single by Kennard Jones in the ninth.
Chris Oxspring (4-8) picked up the win, allowing five runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts in five innings. Mark Diapoules (7-4) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs in 3.1 innings pitched. Ryan Houston earned his seventh save of the season.
The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Saturday, September 10th when the Patriots return home to take on the York Revolution at 7:05 pm.
