Lancaster Stormers News Release

Travis Garcia belted a grand slam while Brian Barton and Ben Harrison each doubled twice as Southern Maryland downed the Barnstormers, 11-4, on Labor Day afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The game was shortened to seven innings by rain.

Lancaster has dropped seven of its last ten games to fall five games behind York in the Freedom Division, pending the outcome of York's game against the Road Warriors.

The assault began against J.D. Durbin (8-3) in the first inning. Adam Godwin led off with a single to center and moved up on a bunt. Barton scored him with a single up the middle. Durbin was able to pick up a second out when he picked Barton off second. However, Casey Benjamin roped a 3-2 pitch into the right center alley, and Garcia followed with a double down the left field line for a 2-0 lead. Harrison took the next pitch deep into left center as the Blue Crabs went up, 3-0.

Barton's double to right center in the second scored Tanner Townsend with the fourth run. Rich Giannotti homered to right center in the third following a Harrison double as the gap widened to 6-0.

Durbin left with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth, giving way to Tim McNab. Garcia yanked a pitch to deep left which hit near the top of the wall. Initially ruled a three-run double by third base umpire David Mills, the call was changed to a home run after the umpires conferred.

That 10-0 lead was built before Lancaster ever had a baserunner against Nick Green (10-6). Gilberto Mejia broke the spell with a ground single up the middle to open the home fourth. He moved up on a walk to Wayne Lydon and scored on consecutive ground balls to shortstop.

Tommy Everidge reached the picnic tents in right for a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, setting a single-season record for the Barnstormers with 27. Southern Maryland's Adam Godwin and Lancaster's Travis Metcalf exchanged solo blasts in the seventh.

The Barnstormers are off on Tuesday and will open a four-game series against the Road Warriors with a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 on Wednesday. Lancaster will send John Halama (5-6) to the mound in the first game. Right-hander Chris Little is expected to throw one of the games for the Road Warriors. Both games will be aired live on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed on sportsjuice.com (audio only) and ibnsports.com.

NOTES: Everidge is within 15 of the team RBI record...He has 51 in 50 games in the second half...Lancaster turned three more double plays and has 131 for the season...Lancaster leads the season series, 8-6.
