Richmond, Virginia - The Somerset Patriots (40-22) rallied against a pair of late two-run deficits to take down the Richmond Flying Squirrels (34-29) 6-5 in extra innings at The Diamond Thursday night.

The Patriots trailed 2-0 heading to the sixth and 4-2 heading to the eighth inning, but each time rallied to tie the game. Their first lead -- a 6-4 advantage -- came in the top of the 10th on RBI singles from Diego Castillo and Donny Sands.

Richmond led 2-0 early behind a Simon Whitman RBI double in the third and Heliot Ramos (9) solo home run in the fifth. Somerset initially tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Oswaldo Cabrera and a Sands RBI single in the sixth.

Sands finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI.

The Flying Squirrels answered with a two-run single from Brandon Martorano in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.

In the eighth, Somerset once again rallied to tie the game, this time on an Oswald Peraza RBI triple and the second Cabrera sacrifice fly of the night.

After the Patriots took the lead in the top of the 10th, Richmond got a run back in the bottom of the inning on Whiteman's second RBI double of the game. But Addison Russ (W, 1-1) would set down the final two batters with the tying run at second to end the game and preserve the Somerset win.

Russ worked three innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run while striking out three. Mac Marshall (L, 0-3) yielded two runs (one earned) in one inning of relief to take the loss.

The Patriots and Flying Squirrels continue their six-game series Thursday night. Right-hander Luis Medina (1-1, 5.21 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Richmond righty Sean Hjelle (3-1, 3.00 ERA). First pitch at the Diamond is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
