
Patriots Rally For 3-2 Win Over Bears

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Newark Bears 3-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.
The Patriots rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Right fielder Noah Hall singled, stole second, and designated hitter Josh Pressley was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second. Second baseman Matt Hagen then followed with a two-run double for the lead.
Somerset took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Mike Rodriguez drew a walk and later scored on a fielder's choice that let shortstop Anthony Granato reach first safely.
Newark tied up the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Shortstop Abraham Nunez singled and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Bobby Hill.
The Bears took the lead with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Carl Everett singled and scored on an RBI double by first baseman Daryle Ward for a 2-1 advantage.
Patriots reliever Shaun Babula (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Bears reliever Byron Batson (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in an inning pitched. Travis Minix earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 6:05 pm game on Thursday, April 30th against the Newark Bears.
