Blue Crabs 9 beat Revolution 1

The Blue Crabs stretched their win streak to four on Wednesday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium, by thumping the York Revolution 9-1. Joe Gannon tossed seven strong knuckleball-filled innings to get the win, and Mike Just (5-5, 4 RBI), and Patrick Osborn (3-5, 3 RBI), helped the Crabs continue their hot hitting.

The Blue Crabs will next be in action Thursday evening at home at Regency Furniture Stadium against York for the third and final game of the series. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and the stadium gates will open at 6 p.m.. Scheduled starters are right-hander Mike Smith for York, and righty Ryan Bicondoa for Southern Maryland.

As for Wednesday's game...

The Blue Crabs pounded out 13 hits total in the romp, including the following RBI base knocks: an Osborn RBI single in the first, a Just 2 RBI single in the third, an Osborn 2 RBI single in the fourth, followed by another 2 RBI single by Just in the fourth. The final run for Southern Maryland came in the sixth when Jeremy Owens hit a towering home run to left field with two out and the bases empty.

The nine runs would be seven more than starter Joe Gannon would need, as the righty knuckleballer rebounded nicely from a tough start against Long Island on opening day last Thursday. After allowing seven earned runs in four and a third innings in that start, Gannon scattered eight hits, but just one for extra bases. The only Revolution run of the game was scored in the fourth, when Ryan Goleski singled home Matt Esquivel after a single and a stolen base.

The Crabs' offense chased York southpaw starter and former Minnesota Twins hurler Dave Gassner from the game after just three-plus innings. Gassner took the loss, surrendering seven hits for six runs, five of which were earned.

To close it out, former Kansas City Royal Jimmy Serrano tossed two scoreless innings for the Crabs in the eighth and ninth, striking out three. Southern Maryland improves to 4-2, while York falls to 2-4.
