Buzachero Signed by Blue Jays

(Central Islip, N.Y., Apr. 29, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks today announced that Ed "Bubbie" Buzachero has been signed by the Toronto Blue Jays organization and assigned to their Double-A affiliate, New Hampshire of the Eastern League. The reliever was off to a fast start with Long Island, allowing no runs and just two hits in three and one-third innings of work. The Ducks also today announced they have come to terms with former big league pitcher Ron Flores.
"We're very happy for Bubbie and wish him the best," says Ducks manager Gary Carter. "We're also excited to have Ron join our staff and are confident he will be an important member of our bullpen."
California native Flores joins Long Island after spending the entire 2008 season with Memphis (AAA, Cardinals) of the Pacific Coast League. The lefthander won seven games and saved four with the Redbirds in 59 relief outings. Prior to last season, Flores had spent his entire career in the Athletics system, reaching the Major Leagues in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He owns a 3.05 ERA in 53 big league appearances, and a 41-28 record with a 3.52 ERA in 396 minor league outings, all in relief. The 29-year-old was selected by the Athletics in the 29th round of the 2000 draft.
Buzachero is in his eighth season of professional baseball. He collected a 3-4 record with a 3.15 ERA and 11 saves last season while pitching at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in the Indians organization. The righthander spent his first four seasons in the Blue Jays system, selected by Toronto in the 23rd round of the 2002 draft. This season with the Ducks, Buzachero retired 10 of the 12 batters he faced.
