
Patriots Hopf Over Blue Crabs 5-2

Bridgewater, NJ - Somerset Patriots catcher J.R. Hopf's two home run game helped lead the Patriots to a 5-2 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs before 5,899 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.
The Patriots took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon and first baseman Joe Burke each drew walks to lead off the inning. Lydon came around to score on an RBI single by designated hitter Josh Pressley. Burke and Pressley both came around to score on a double by left fielder Noah Hall.
The Blue Crabs answered with a run in the top of the second inning. Center fielder Jeremy Owens doubled and later scored on an RBI single by shortstop Travis Garcia to make the score 3-1.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run Hopf (4) to make the score 4-1.
Southern Maryland cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the seventh inning on a solo homerun by Garcia (16) and make the score 4-2.
The Patriots added to their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on Hopf's second home run (5) to give Somerset a 5-2 lead.
Patriots starter Bill Pulsipher (4-1) got the win after allowing a run on five hits in six innings pitched. Blue Crabs starter John Koronka (0-3) suffered loss, allowing four runs on four hits in 4.2 innings pitched. Closer Scott Williamson picked up his seventh save of the season after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday when the Patriots take on the Camden Riversharks at 7:05 pm.
