Lancaster Stormers News Release

Josh Hall continued a brilliant run for the Lancaster starting rotation on Sunday afternoon, pitching the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 5-1 victory over the Camden Riversharks at Campbell's Field.

With the win, the Barnstormers completed a sweep of Camden and finished an important road trip with a 6-1 record, pulling back to one game over .500 in the second half.

Hall (13-5) allowed six hits and two walks while striking out six in a complete game performance. The run was unearned, coming in the bottom of the sixth. Speedster Chris Walker reached when Hall mishandled the throw from first baseman Ryan Mulhern on a one-out grounder. Walker created the run on his own, stealing second, taking third on a wild pitch and scoring when Josh Johnson's throw to third was well off the mark and went into foul ground down the third base line.

The only other difficulty faced by the right-hander came in the second inning. Raul Padron and Chris Malec reached base to start the inning with opposite field grounders to the right of third baseman Aaron Herr. Herr made a diving stop against Padron's smash but fired from his knees, pulling Mulhern off the bag, and Malec barely beat a throw. Hall fanned Teuris Olivares for the first out before finding more trouble when Estee Harris' fly ball disappeared in the high sky and dropped for a single in front of center fielder Michael Woods. Hall got Juan Francia to hit a crisp one-hopper to the right of Bryant Nelson, who started a snappy 6-4-3 double play to get Hall out of the inning.

Lancaster also turned double plays the next two frames to keep Hall out of any more significant danger.

The Barnstormers got the offense going against Ben Davis (3-10) in the third. Woods lined a single into center for the first of his three hits. Johnson popped up a bunt, but Davis and Malec collided, jarring the ball loose and into foul ground as everyone arrived safely. With one bunt having worked, Lancaster tried another, and Lloyd Turner laid a beauty down the third base line for a single to load the bases. Woods scored as L.J. Biernbaum grounded into a double play.

More support for Hall came in the fourth. Herr and Reggie Taylor banged out consecutive hits to ignite the Barnstormers. A wild pitch sent Taylor to second, and Mulhern drove in one run with a sacrifice fly to deep right. Adam Witter walked, and Woods looped a single into right center to score Taylor for a 3-0 lead. Witter later scored on a fly to medium right by Turner.

Lancaster's final run came in the sixth when Turner's ground ball skipped off the third base bag for a double, bringing home Woods who had beaten out a bunt single with two outs in the inning.

The Barnstormers return home to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at 6:30 on Monday evening. Lancaster will send Jose Sanchez (5-11) to the mound against Crabs right-hander Joe Newby (6-4). The game will start a seven-game homestand for the Barnstormers.
