Patrick Johnson Goes Distance To Get 14th Win

The Sioux City Explorers scored twelve runs in seven innings to get the 12-1 rout over Wichita. X's right-hander Patrick Johnson went the distance recording his American Association league leading fourteenth win of the season.

X's lead-off hitter Matty Johnson scored the first run, doubling to start the inning and scoring from third base off of two errors. Brock Kjeldgaard knocked in Lang with a sac-fly RBI to give the Explorers the quick 2-0 lead after an inning.

Sioux City scored one run in the fourth inning. Rene Tosoni worked up a lead off walk, moved to second and third off two singles, and scored on a Tommy Mendonca sacrifice fly.

The Explorers bats took fire in the fifth, plating nine huge runs off five hits and an error to put the game out of reach and eventually go on to get the 12-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

Some big plays in the fifth inning-Brock Kjeldgaard cleared the bases with a three-run-double, Brent Keys knocked in a row with a base-hit single, and Matty Johnson scored a runner from second off a double.

Wichita scored a lone run in the seventh inning but couldn't answer the Explorers eleven other runs scored in the seven inning ball-game. Final Score, Sioux City 12, Wichita 1.

Explorers starter Patrick Johnson (14-1) received the win going all seven innings with one run allowed and six strikeouts. Wingnuts starting pitcher Eddie Medina was charged with the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) in four innings.

Sioux City had three batters finish with double-digit hits. X's centerfielder Matty Johnson had three hits which were all doubles in the contest. Brock Kjeldgaard and Ryan Court both finished with two hits in the first game of the doubleheader.
