Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS (August 28, 2015) - With Jon Link on the disabled list as of this week, the Wichita Wingnuts were left a hole in their five-man starting rotation. Filling the vacated spot in the pitching staff will be one of the top pitchers from the Pacific Association, right-hander Max Beatty. Beatty will start game two of a doubleheader in Sioux City on Friday night.
Pitching for the San Rafael Pacifics this season, Beatty was tied for first in the Pacific Association in wins and second in both strikeouts and earned run average. He posted an 8-2 record with a 3.17 ERA over 14 starts. In 90.2 innings Beatty fanned 89 opposing hitters and walked only 18. He tossed three complete games including a one-hit shutout of Pittsburg on August 7th.
The native of Vancouver, Washington was a 2013 draft pick of the San Diego Padres out of Pacific Lutheran University. He began his professional career with 16 relief appearances for the Padres Arizona League rookie affiliate before being bumped up to the Single-A level in Eugene.
Beatty closed the 2013 season by pitching in five games out of the Eugene Emeralds pen. The 24-year old spent the entire 2014 season with the Emeralds and took the mound 18 times, with one of those appearances coming as the starter. He allowed 29 hits in 28.0 Innings and surrendered 21 runs with only 14 of them being earned. Beatty recorded 25 strikeouts and walked five opposing hitters.
