
Panthers Call for Callahan; Comrie Reassigned to Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallonannounced today that the club has recalled defenseman Joe Callahan from the Rochester Americans (AHL). In a related move, the Panthers have also reassigned fellow blueliner Adam Comrie to Rochester from the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones. Comrie will join the Amerks this afternoon at Copps Coliseum where the Amerks take on the Hamilton Bulldogs in a 4:00 p.m. North Division showdown.
The NHL promotion is third of the season for Callahan, who will be eligible to compete in Florida's home game against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, February 13th. Faceoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Callahan, 28, has appeared in four games with Florida this season, averaging 14:25 minutes per game. For his career in the National Hockey League, he has played in 23 games with Florida (2010-11), San Jose (2009-10) and NY Islanders (2008-09), registering three assists and six penalty minutes.
The Brockton, Massachusetts, native has played in 46 games with Rochester this season, scoring three goals with nine assists for 12 points and 12 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound rearguard was drafted by Phoenix in the third round (70th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Re-joining the team today is Comrie, whose return to Rochester from the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones was sparked by Callahan's departure to South Florida. Comrie, 20, comes back to the Amerks, where he has registered three assists and 10 penalty minutes in 18 AHL games this season.
In 13 games with the Cyclones, the 6-foot-4, 213-pound blueliner has notched four goals and assisted on four others for eight points, in addition to 18 penalty minutes. He scored his first professional goal on January 28thagainst South Carolina. The Kanata, Ontario, native is currently in his first professional season after being selected in the third round (80thoverall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
The Amerks continue their busy stretch of four games in five nights today with a 4:00 p.m. matinee with the North Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. Fans can tune in for all the live action on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
