February 12, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose are pleased to announce the organization retired former captain Mike Keane's jersey #12 in a ceremony prior to their game between the Moose and the San Antonio Rampage.
In five seasons with the Moose, the Winnipeg, MB native scored 36 goals and 78 assists for 114 points and 244 penalty minutes in 365 games. In 59 Calder Cup playoff games, he scored eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points and 25 penalty minutes. Back in 2006-07, he was the recipient of the American Hockey League's Fred T. Hunt Award for sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to the game of hockey. Keane was also selected as the captain of the Canadian team at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, ON.
In his previous 22 seasons of pro hockey, Keane has won three Stanley Cups (Montreal â93, Colorado '96, Dallas '99) and played in 1,161 NHL games where he's scored 168 goals and 470 points as well as 881 penalty minutes with Montreal, Colorado, Dallas, the New York Rangers, St. Louis, and Vancouver. Keane played his 1,500th career hockey game as a professional on February 3/09 versus the Lake Erie Monsters.
Keane also received the Order of the Buffalo Hunt from the Province of Manitoba. The Order is the highest honour the province can bestow on an individual who has demonstrated outstanding skills in the area of leadership, service and community commitment.
Keane also received a commissioned, one-of-a kind graphic painting, illustrated by sports-artist Steve Dittberner from True North Sports & Entertainment, as well as a trip for two to Los Angeles, airfare included, and a pair of rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Course from the Manitoba Moose players.
The first 4,000 fans in attendance on Mike Keane Tribute Night will receive a commemorative Mike Keane #12 replica mini-banner in honor of the former Moose captain.
