Albany Devils News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Steve Zalewski tied it and Adam Henrique netted the game-winning goal to give the Albany Devils a 4-3 overtime victory against the Charlotte Checkers Saturday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Henrique caused an offensive-zone turnover and then snapped a wrist shot five-hole with 1:38 remaining.

Things looked dim for the Devils, trailing 3-2 with less than four minutes to play, but recently acquired Zalewski tipped in a bouncing puck with 3:38 on the clock. Chad Wiseman found Stephen Gionta, who threw a shot towards the goal. The puck was redirected, allowing Zalewski to bat home his first goal as an Albany Devil.

Earlier in the game, the Devils carried two leads. Rob Davision opened the scoring with a shot from the point at 10:50 of the first period. After Charlotte tied things, David McIntyre scored on a bomb at 5:30 of the second. Again, the Checkers had an answer with back-to-back power-play goals.

The Checkers led all the way until Albany's late-game heroics.

Davison's goal, which was his third of the season, came from a shot that was redirected by a Charlotte player. Matt Anderson earned the first assist, while Dan Kelly picked up the second.

Drayson Bowman was responsible for the home team's first tally at 1:27 of the second with an assist going to Matthew Pistilli.

McIntyre netted his eighth goal of the season with the help of Louis Robitaille, who caused a turnover in the offensive zone. McIntyre let one rip from the right circle through the body of Checkers' netminder Justin Pogge.

From there, Jacob Micflikier found the back of the net with a wrist shot in the slot at 15:59 of the second. Brett Carson and Jerome Samson had the assists. Moments later, Zac Dalpe mimicked Davison's goal, redirecting a shot off an opponent. His goal, which was assisted by Bryan Rodney and Micflikier, came at 17:32.

Zalewski's goal was his fifth of the season. He had four previous goals with the Worcester Sharks before arriving in Albany via a four-player trade. For Henrique, it was his 14th of the year and second game-winning goal

In his second-straight start, Dave Caruso made 27 saves and came up big in the third period. He denied Nicolas Blanchard on a penalty shot 5:12 in and stopped Jerome Samson on a breakaway less than a minute later. Pogge had 23 stops.

These two teams battle again Sunday at 3 p.m. The game can be followed on 104.5 FM "The Team' ESPN Radio or online at AHLLive.com. Fans can also stay up-to-date with all the action via facebook.com/albanydevils or twitter.com/albanydevils.
