Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

Clearwater, FL. - Dunedin opened up their first series of the year with the Palm Beach Cardinals with a back and forth game that had action till the very end.

Joey Murray came out ready to pitch early in the contest with four strikeouts in the first two innings, while striking out the side in the 2nd. The third inning is where the game opened up for both teams as Murray gave up a solo blast to Lars Nootbaar. Dunedin did not stay down for long with the help of Cal Stevenson. A Samad Taylor and Jesus Navarro single setup runners on the corner for Stevenson to drive in his 32 run of the year and tie the game at 1-1.

The Cardinals would strike again in the 5th inning with another solo home run this time by Nick Dunn. Other than these two home runs Murray had a solid outing with six strikeouts and just two walks. His ERA is at 1.74 for the year. Demi Orimoloye helped Murray out with a lead off home run to the opposite field on the first pitch of the inning to tie the game up. The Blue Jays were not done as the speed of Samad Taylor got him on second with a stolen base, and then Jesus Navarro dropped a single into right-center field to take the first lead of the game against the Cardinals.

Mike Ellenbest would come on with the lead to try and hold things for the Blue Jays, but the Palm Beach offense proved formidable. They threatened with runners on second and third with just one out, but Ellenbest was able to keep the game to a tie with giving up just a sacrifice fly to Luis Montano. The back and forth game continued with the Cardinals plating a run in the 7th, but again Ellenbest limited the damage to just one to keep his team in it. Jackson Rees had a great outing after taking over for Ellenbest giving up just one hit in two innings, but a two base error from Kevin Vicuna would prove to be the costly mistake in the game that eventually scored the fifth run of the game for the Cardinals with a Lars Nootbaar single.

The Blue Jays fought till the end as they have all year getting runners on first and second with no outs.Kacy Clemens brought the lead to one with a sacrifice fly, but the night would end on a Samad Taylor flyout to Scott Hurst to finish the comeback attempt. Dunedin gets back in the saddle at 6:30 tomorrow lacing them up once again against the Palm Beach Cardinals.
