Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS- The RoughRiders scored two runs in the second and fourth innings en route to a 4-3 win in their series opener with the Hooks Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. With the win, Frisco needs one win to clinch a first half South Division title.

On a seven game winning streak coming into the game, Corpus Christi led off the scoring in the first. After "˜Riders starter Tim Murphy (3-7) got a pair of groundouts, Jonathan Singleton singled to center field setting the stage for Astros outfielder Carlos Lee, who was rehabbing with the Hooks. Looking at a 1-1 count, Lee hit a towering home run to left field to put Corpus on top 2-0.

The RoughRiders countered by scoring two runs in the second. After getting the first two outs quickly, Hooks' righthander Jarred Cosart (3-4) gave up an infield single to Ryan Strausborger. A double by Val Majewski found its way deep to the left field corner, allowing Strausborger to score. Jared Prince then stepped into the box and hit a ground ball to second base. Jose Martinez mishandled the ball allowing Prince to reach first safely and Majewski to score, tying the game at 2.

Frisco put another two runs on the board in the fourth. Cosart began the inning by walking Chris McGuiness who then moved to second base on a wild pitch. One batter later, Cosart walked Val Majewski. A fly out by Jared Prince kept the pair from advancing but both scored after Jose Felix hit a double to left field.

Facing a two-run hole, the Hooks cut it in half after scoring a run in the fifth. Murphy opened the inning by walking Adam Bailey. Jair Fernandez next stepped into the box hitting a double to left that scored Bailey, making it a 4-3 ballgame. However, that would be the last run for either team to cross the plate.

Tim Murphy picked up his third win of the season pitching for five innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs, while walking one and striking out one. Jarred Cosart was tagged with his fourth loss of the season pitching for six innings, allowing five hits, four runs (three earned) while walking three and striking out two.

The "˜Riders can clinch the division Friday night, when the two clubs meet in the second game of the series. Nick Tepesch (-,-) will make his "˜Riders debut Friday night, after Justin Grimm was tabbed to make his first major league start on Saturday. Tepesch has a 5-3 record and a 2.89 ERA at High-A Myrtle Beach this season. He will be opposed by Hooks right-hander Ross Seaton (5-3, 4.28). First pitch is slated for 7:05, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM and on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:30.
