Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Sky Carp had just one more big inning than the Chiefs did on Tuesday as Peoria fell 6-3 at Dozer Park.
Beloit scored the final six runs of the game, scoring three in the fourth and three in the sixth.
The Sky Carp sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth against Peoria reliever Matt Hickey. With two outs and runners on first and second, Cameron Barstad doubled to give Beloit a 4-3 lead. Osiris Johnson followed with a two-run single to make it 6-3.
That inning allowed Cade Poland to earn the win. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits, walking two and fanning five.
The Chiefs opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first. R.J. Yeager led off with a solo home run to make it 1-0. Then with Ramon Mendoza on first and two outs, Chris Rotondo belted a two-run home run to make it a 3-0 Chiefs lead.
Beloit tied the score at three with three runs in the top of the fourth off Peoria starter Ian Bedell. Joe Mack led off with a single. After a ground out and a strike out, Ynmanol Marinez hit a two-run home run to make it 3-2. Three straight singles plated the tying run with Barstad driving in Chase Luttrell to make it 3-3.
Bedell lasted four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking one and punching out four.
The Beloit bullpen pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Poland. The combination of Zach King, Edgar Sanchez, and Breidy Encarnacion fanned five and allowed just two baserunners. Encarnacion earned the save.
The Sky Carp out-hit the Chiefs 11-5. Barstad, Ryan Ignoffo, and Javier Sanoja each had two hits.
Peoria falls to 68-59 and 35-26 in the second half. Despite the loss, the Chiefs magic number was reduced to two as Wisconsin fell to Cedar Rapids. Beloit improves to 52-74 and 24-36 in the latter half.
Game Two of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
