Pair Of Canadians Grab Weekly Honours
June 26, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians found out late Monday evening that 1B Balbino Fuenmayor and RHP Javier Avendano have been named Northwest League Player and Pitcher of the Week (June 17-24) respectively.
Fuenmayor, 22, began his second season in Vancouver hitting .400 (16-for-40) with three home runs and 15 RBI, which through Monday was the top HR and RBI tally in the Northwest League. Falling just a triple shy of a cycle in Spokane (June 17), Fuenmayor went 6-for-10 with seven RBI in three games vs. Tri-City out at Scotiabank Field to help pace the Canadians to a Northwest League leading 8-2 (.800) record through the team's first ten games.
Avendano, 21, pitched in three games (1-0 0.00) for Vancouver including a pair of starts for the defending Northwest League Champions. The native of Venezuela struck out 14 over his nine innings of work and allowing just five hits. The Canadians have benefitted from Avendano's efforts winning all three games that the hard throwing right-hander has pitched in. Prior to joining Vancouver's rotation, Avendano struck out 39 in 30 1/3 innings with Lansing (Midwest League) while maintaining a tidy 1.48ERA.
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club wishes to congratulate both Balbino Fuenmayor and Javier Avendano for earning this Northwest League honour for the week of June 17th through 24th.
