Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox scored nine runs in the second inning en route to a 13-2 victory over the Vancouver Canadians. Taylor Ard led the effort with a solo home run in the first inning and a grand slam in the second.

The Sox improved to 5-1 at home, and 8-3 overall to move into a first-place tie with Vancouver.

AquaSox catcher David Villasuso led off the big second inning with a strikeout, but came up again to hit a two-run home run to center field.

The Frogs sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning.

Scott DeCecco, the Mariners' 21st-round selection in the 2012 draft, made his first start of the year and held the C's scoreless while allowing two hits and one walk in 3 1/3 innings of work. The left-hander from New Jersey struck out four.

Matt Vedo (1-0, 0.00 ERA) made his first appearance of the season for the Frogs and earned the win in relief, since DeCecco didn't last the necessary five innings for a starter to earn a victory. The 24th-round pick in the 2012 draft tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up just one walk while striking out two.

Eric Brown (0-1, 10.61 ERA) earned the loss for Vancouver as he failed to get out of the brutal second inning, giving up 10 earned runs off nine hits while walking one and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings.

The Sox will send out 17-year-old Victor Sanchez tomorrow in the second game of the three-game series. Right-hander Zack Breault will make his first start of the season for the C's.
