Boise Hawks News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - Patrick Cantwell lined a two-out, two-strike, two-run double in the fourth inning to give Spokane the lead, as the Indians defeated the Boise Hawks, 3-1, before 2,912 fans at frigid Avista Stadium.

Playing in wind chills in the 30s, the Indians loaded the bases in the fourth on a Gabriel Roa single and walks to Ryan Rua and Barrett Serrato. With two down, Cantwell drove a fastball into the left field corner for his first professional hit to give Spokane a 2-1 lead. The Indians would extend the margin in the eighth with an unearned run on a Cam Schiller sacrifice fly.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the second, as Chadd Krist reached on a error and moved to second on a wild pitch, scoring on a Rock Shoulders RBI single. However, the Hawks had just one runner reach scoring position the rest of the way, as John Kukaruda and two relievers combined on a three-hitter.

Kukaruda allowed just two hits and fanned four in five innings to get the win, with Alec Asher retiring six of the seven men he faced to pick up the save. Gabriel Roa had two of the five hits in the win for the Indians.

James Pugliese took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in four-plus innings of work, walking four men. Hayden Simpson allowed just two hits and struck out four in three and a third innings of relief.

Game 3 of the series is tomorrow afternoon, with Tayler Scott meeting Jose Valdespina at 4:35 p.m. (MT)

NOTES - The game was delayed by 12 minutes at the outset due to a wet infield - with a driving rainstorm plauging the teams in the late innings...temperatures were in the 40s throughout, with a 15-25 mile per hour wind blowing out to left...Jeimer Candelario extended his hit streak to seven with a sixth inning single...Gioskar Amaya had his seven-game hit streak and 11-game streak of reaching base snapped, as did Marco Hernandez's seven-game hit streak...
