Padres Manage Four Hits in Loss to Tacoma

Brian Sweeney and two Tacoma relievers held the Tucson Padres to four hits in a 4-1 win for the Rainiers Monday at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma jumped ahead in the top of the second when Mike Zunino tripled and scored on an RBI groundout by Stefen Romero. Alex Liddi launched a solo home run over the left-center field fence in the sixth for Tacoma's second run. Two more Rainiers came around to score in the seventh to extend their lead to 4-0.

Tucson scored its first run of the game in the eighth inning when Jaff Decker hit an infield single and a throwing error by Nick Franklin on the same play allowed Gregorio Petit to score from second base. Reliever Lucas Luetge pitched a scoreless ninth and secured his first save for Tacoma.

Sweeney improved to 3-0 on the season after pitching six shutout innings. Eddie Bonine lasted six innings for the Padres, twice as long as his first start, but took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits.
