Today's Game: The RedHawks welcome the Nashville Sounds to Oklahoma City to open a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. The RedHawks are aiming for a season-best four-game win streak.
Last Game: The RedHawks closed out their first winning home series with a 5-3 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs. The RedHawks were aggressive on the basepaths, tying a season high with four stolen bases and leaving just one runner on base through the first seven innings. Jonathan Villar kept his hot hitting alive with two more hits, including his first home run of the season. Brett Oberholtzer also claimed his first win, tossing five-plus solid innings and striking out a season-high five batters. The bullpen held the Zephyrs to just one run over the final four innings, capped off with a scoreless ninth by Jose Valdez to earn his sixth save.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Ross Seaton heads to the mound for the first time in over a week...Due to some rotation shifting and a day off, Seaton has not pitched last Sunday in Albuquerque...Over 4.1 innings, Seaton allowed six runs, although only three of which were earned...He did a good job of keeping the ball down at hitter-friendly Isotopes Park, inducing nine groundouts...Seaton threw a season-high 84 pitches and took a no decision in the RedHawks 10-7 win...Between his last two outings, Seaton has allowed 13 runs (10 ER) and 13 hits over 7.1 innings...In his previous four starts with the RedHawks, Seaton allowed one earned run each time and posted a 1.52 ERA...His first start for the RedHawks this season came against the Sounds on April 9 in Nashville...Seaton allowed just one run and six hits over five efficient innings, but he did not earn the win after the Sounds tied the game in the seventh inning.
Against the Sounds: 2013: 2-1 2012: 13-3 All-time: 129-114 In OKC: 68-52
The RedHawks won two of three in a rain-shortened, three-game series in Nashville earlier this season...It was a low-scoring series, with the two teams putting up 13 runs combined (OKC-8, NAS-5)...The RedHawks hit .204 while the Sounds were held to a .189 team average...It should come as no surprise all three games have been decided by two runs or less, since 11 of 16 games last season were decided by that margin...In 2012 the RedHawks dominated the season series, winning 13 of 16 games, including seven of eight in Oklahoma City...The RedHawks pitching staff posted an outstanding 2.67 ERA...OKC has claimed the season series in four of the last five years.
On the Marc: For the first time in 12 home games, Marc Krauss failed to hit safely, going 0-for-3 with a sac fly yesterday. In Oklahoma City he's batting at a .405 clip with three homers and 18 RBI. His 23 RBI are sixth in the PCL and rank first among Astros minor leaguers. On Saturday night, for just the second time in his career, Krauss stole two bases in a game. The other occasion was July 13, 2012 in the second game of a doubleheader against the Huntsville Stars when Krauss was playing for Double-A Mobile in the Diamondbacks system.
Valiant Villar: After getting off to a 2-for-34 start, Jonathan Villar is hitting .400 (22x55) over his last 13 games. He's hit safely in 11 of the games and collected more than one hit in eight of his last nine contests. Despite not having a multi-hit game until the 11th game of the season, he is now tied for the team lead with Jimmy Paredes with 10. During this stretch he has collected all 10 of his RBI and all eight of his extra-base hits for the season.
Paredes Patiently Popping Off: Jimmy Paredes is 9-for-19 during his current five-game hit streak and has collected at least two hits three times. Paredes leads the team with 31 hits and 10 multi-hit games. He drew another walk yesterday, marking already the second time this year he's walked in back-to-back games. Over 124 games with the RedHawks last season, he accomplished that only three times. Paredes' walk total now stands at 11, exactly half of what he had for all of 2012 (22). He didn't draw his 11th walk last season until June 27.
Simunic's Start: Since joining the RedHawks on April 18, Andy Simunic has hit safely in six of seven games, going 11-for-25 (.440). He has four multi-hit games and the one game in which he did not hit safely, he drew two walks and hit a sac fly. Over 11 games with the RedHawks the last two seasons, Simunic went just 1-for-14.
Swipe Out: In each of the last two games, the RedHawks have stolen four bases. Their season total now stands at 28, which ranks third in the PCL.
Yard Work: The RedHawks have homered in consecutive home game for the just the second time this season. They've gone deep six times in 12 games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, with Marc Krauss accounting for half of those. Their 16 total homers this season rank just 14th in the PCL, but on the other hand, the 14 home runs allowed by the pitching staff are second-least in the league.
Tightening the Screws: Since getting down 6-0 in the fifth inning of Thursday's game, the RedHawks pitching staff has allowed eight runs and 27 hits over the last 34 innings. During that stretch the RedHawks have outscored the opposition 26-8.
A Good Ol' Chap: After allowing two runs without recording an out in his season debut, reliever Kevin Chapman has allowed one earned run over his last eight appearances, spanning 11.1 IP. He's struck out 12 and held opponents to a .154 average.
All or Nothing: Through the first 23 games of the season, the RedHawks pitching staff has allowed seven or more runs 12 times, but has limited the opposition to three runs or less in the other 11 games.
