Reading Phillies outfielder Jorge Padilla has been named the Eastern League's Chevrolet Player of the Week for the week ending May 11th.
Padilla, a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, had an outstanding week, hitting .458 (11-for-24) with five doubles, one home run, five runs batted in, three runs scored, three walks and three stolen bases in six games last week. The 23-year old is tied for the league lead with 11 doubles and is tied for third in the league in stolen bases with 11. Padilla, who is ninth in the league with a .326 batting average, currently has an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 28 of the 34 games he has played this season.
The 6'2", 200 lb. slugger was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the June 1998 draft.
