PORTLAND, ME â Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn has announced his selections for the Eastern League Chevrolet Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending May 11, 2003:
Reading Phillies outfielder Jorge Padilla has been named the Eastern League's Chevrolet Player of the Week for the week ending May 11th. Padilla, a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, had an outstanding week, hitting .458 (11-for-24) with five doubles, one home run, five runs batted in, three runs scored, three walks and three stolen bases in six games last week. The 23-year old is tied for the league lead with 11 doubles and is tied for third in the league in stolen bases with 11. Padilla, who is ninth in the league with a .326 batting average, currently has an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 28 of the 34 games he has played this season. The 6'2", 200 lb. slugger was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the June 1998 draft.

Jeff Farnsworth, a right-handed pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, is the Eastern League's Chevrolet Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 11th. The Pensacola, Florida native was 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in starts against the Bowie Baysox and the Altoona Curve last week. In his first start of the week the 27-year old struck out five batters and walked none while scattering 10 hits and tossing six shutout innings. In his second start of the week the 6'2", 190 lb. hurler struck out four and walked none while tossing a complete game five-hit shutout at Altoona to even his record at 3-3 on the season. Farnsworth was acquired by the Detroit Tigers from the Seattle Mariners in the Rule 5 Major League Draft on December 13, 2001.
