Potomac Nationals News Release
(Frederick, MD) Potomac hit six home runs and blasted Frederick 14-6 Thursday afternoon from Harry Grove Stadium.
J.P Ramirez, Destin Hood, Brian Peacock, Justin Bloxom, Jose Lozada, and Eury Perez all went deep, accounting for 11 of the Nats' 14 runs.
The P-Nats put up six runs in the top of the 2nd to jet out to an early 6-0 lead. J.P. Ramirez started things off with a solo home run, and Keys' starter Ryan O'Shea never regained his command after that. Catcher Brian Peacock and shortstop Francisco Soriano both walked, and a single by Eury Perez loaded the bases. Second baseman Jeff Kobernus opened up the second inning flood gates with a single to left field that scored two. Destin Hood followed with the biggest hit of the inning - a three run home run, making it 6-0.
The homers continued in the third inning for the P-Nats, when Peacock hit a two-run shot. His first home run of the season made it 8-3 and washed away the three-run bottom of the 2nd that the Keys tried to counter with.
Frederick went to the bullpen to start the fourth inning and replaced O'Shea with Will Startup, but life wasn't much different for him. The second batter he faced, Justin Bloxom, drilled a solo homer - the third home run of the season for Pomotac's number four hitter. Jose Lozada kept the pace going with a solo shot to lead off the top of the 5th. His first of the year made it 11-3 P-Nats.
Potomac gave Frederick's pitching a breather in the 6th, but saddled back up in the 7th when Eury Perez launched a three-run bomb to left-center field - also his first of the season. Those would be the final runs for Potomac on Thursday afternoon.
Outside of one inning, pitcher Danny Rosenbaum had a decent start for the P-Nats. In the third he allowed three runs, two of them on a double by Buck Britton. The Keys number two hitter had three RBI, giving him 30 on season, which is good for 1st in the Carolina League. He has also had an RBI in eight-straight games.
But Rosenbaum settled in nicely, and kept things in check for Potomac. His final line was 5.2 IP, six runs on seven hits, and four strikeouts.
With the win the P-Nats split the four-game series with the Keys, after losing the first two. Potomac only scored two runs in the first half of the series, but tallied 20 in the back half. The Nationals remain in third place in the Northern division of the Carolina League.
The game was originally schedule to start at 11 a.m., but a two-hour rain delay pushed first pitch back until 1 p.m.
The P-Nats try for a three-game winning streak as the bus rolls into Lynchburg for a series with the Hillcats starting tomorrow. Mitchell Clegg opens things up on the bump. First pitch schedule for 6:05.
