
Early Lead Not Enough for 'Cats, Fall 4-3

Kinston, NC - The Hillcats scored in the top of the first inning for the fifth straight game, but could not hold on to the lead for the third straight night.
Todd Cunningham got the Hillcats offense going early yet again. He led off the first inning with an infield single to third base. Andrelton Simmons followed Cunningham, reaching on an error, putting runners at first and second for Adam Milligan. Milligan doubled to the right-center gap scoring both runners with still nobody out in the first. Milligan would go stranded at second and the 'Cats led 2-0.
Kinston came back with four unanswered runs following the two-run first of the Hillcats. Casey Frawley singled home a run in the bottom of the first inning. Then, Roberto Perez doubled in Justin Toole in the second tying the game at 2-2. The Indians took the lead in the third as Frawley scored on a two-out single for Chase Burnette.
The Indians put their leadoff man on in four of the first five innings and in three of those innings, that man scored, including Abner Abreu in the fifth. Abreu doubled to start off the Kinston fifth, and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Hillcats scored once more before the night was done. Milligan led off the sixth with a double. Joey Terdoslavich then single Milligan in cutting the Kinston lead to 4-3.
Milligan finished the night 2-for-4, with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored in his second game back from the disabled list. The Hillcats couldn't muster any further offense however, and fell 4-3, dropping their third straight one-run ball game to the Indians.
Kinston starter Clayton Cook (3-3) allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits, while striking out five through 5.2 innings pitched on his way to the win. Chris Masters swallowed the loss after 5.1 innings pitched, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks, while striking out four. Preston Guilmet earned his seventh save of the year and fourth against the HIllcats with a scoreless ninth.
Lynchbburg is now 14-24 this season after going 2-5 over their past seven-game road trip.
The Hillcats return home Friday night as the Potomac Nationals come to City Stadium for a three-game set. Game one is set for 6:05 pm, Friday. LHP Dimasther Delgado will take the mound for the Hillcats against LHP Mitchell Clegg for the Nationals.
