P-Nats and Pelicans Suspended
June 7, 2013 - Carolina League (CarL1) - Potomac Nationals News Release
Tonight's Potomac Nationals' series finale in Myrtle Beach, SC with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans was suspended in the bottom of the 9th inning with the score tied 5-5 after RHP Cameron Selik allowed a flare RBI single to the gap in left center field off the bat of SS Luis Sardinas scoring 2B Edwin Garcia, who walked leading off the frame.
There are two outs and C Patrick Cantwell is due to hit next.
A torrential tropical rainstorm invaded TicketReturn.com Field a little after 10:00pm and following a 45 minute rain delay, the game was officially suspended.
No makeup date has been announced as the Nationals do not play the Pelicans again in the first half of the 2013 season.
Potomac LHP Sammy Solis and LHP Victor Payano were both effective in giving their clubs a chance to win through 5.0 innings each but neither received a decision.
Payano left the hill as the winning pitcher of record and Solis left on the hook for the loss.
After Potomac was down 3-0 through five innings, 1B Kevin Keyes crushed a two out, two-run homer in the 6th stanza off RHP Jose Monegro before Potomac collected three runs in the 7th off RHP Jon Edwards on RBIs from RF Caleb Ramsey, CF Michael Taylor, and SS Jason Martinson.
Sardinas got one run back for Myrtle Beach on an RBI sacrifice fly in the 7th before sending 2B Edwin Garcia to the plate in the 9th amidst furious rainfall.
Potomac begins their final homestand of the season tomorrow night with a 7:05pm first pitch against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles).
P-Nats RHP A.J. Cole deals against Keys LHP Tim Berry.
A Drew Storen poster giveaway presented by Burke and Herbert Bank will usher in the homestand Friday night before the best fireworks show in Northern Virginia on Saturday night and a special jersey auction to benefit Autism Speaks sponsored by Lindsay Automotive.
