Providence Bruins News Release

Albany, NY - - The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany Devils 3-1 Saturday night as the team improved their point streak to 11 straight games, tied for the longest streak in the AHL this season. The P-Bruins got goals from Peter Cehlarik, Wayne Simpson and Jordan Szwarz while Malcolm Subban earned the win in net.

Providence dominated the first period offensively and took a 1-0 lead after several good chances. While on the power play with one minute to go, Matt Grzelcyk drove to the net and passed the puck out to Alex Grant. Grant sent a slap pass out to Cehlarik, who sent one by Ken Appleby for his team leading 11th goal of the year. Providence outshot Albany 10-2 in the first 20 minutes as they took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Albany reversed the script in the second period, controlling play and earning the better chances which led to their only goal of the night. At 11:29, Providence turned the puck over in front of their net and Blake Pietila went top right corner to beat Subban and tie the score 1-1. Blake Coleman registered the lone assist on Pietila's eighth goal of the season and the game was tied heading into the second intermission.

After a fairly even five minutes to start the third, the P-Bruins grabbed a lead they would not relinquish at 7:58. While on the power play, Szwarz took the puck up the boards to the right wing corner and sent a centering pass to Simpson. He beat Appleby for his eighth goal of the season as Providence took a 2-1 lead.

The team got some breathing room at 13:11 when the Bruins turned defense into offense. Jake DeBrusk stole a pass at the blue line and sent a pass to Szwarz who went five-hole for his sixth goal of the season. The goal deflated Albany, who didn't put up much of a fight for the remaining seven minutes as Providence won 3-1.

Subban stopped 27 of 28 shots while Appleby stopped 23 of 26. The P-Bruins were 2-3 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill. The team returns home Sunday at 3:05 against Hartford for the conclusion of their Toy Drive Weekend.
