Stars Erupt for 8 Goals to Topple IceHogs

Cedar Park, Texas. - The Rockford IceHogs (7-13-2-2) fell 8-4 in a high-scoring affair against the Texas Stars (12-8-1-1) Friday night at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Texas. Both Luke Johnson and Robin Norell picked up their first goals of the season in the contest.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first period, Rockford fought back in the second frame. Cameron Schilling began the charge when he blasted a power-play goal into the top left corner of the net just 1:17 into the period. Johnson then followed with his first professional strike when he one-timed a pass from Jeremy Langlois at 6:06 of the frame.

Norell popped home his first-ever AHL strike 1:07 later to even the score at three, bringing Rockford all the way back from the 3-0 deficit.

Before the end of the period, however, Texas jumped back in front. Brenden Randord notched his second goal of the game after the IceHogs turned the puck over in front of their own net to allow the Stars to regain control of the contest. Goals continued to find the net in bunches, as just 1:30 after Ranford's second strike, Matt Mangene finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play for a power-play tally to give the Stars a 5-3 lead heading into the third.

The Stars added three more in the third, as Brandon DeFazio, Remi Elie, and Justin Dowling all scored for Texas. Baun gave the IceHogs a brief bit of life when be slammed home a rebound goal on a Mark McNeill shot with 6:49 to play to draw within 7-4, but Dowling's breakaway capped off the scoring to grant Texas the 8-4 win.

Both teams used both of their netminders. Jake Hildebrand took the loss for Rockford, while Carruth stopped six of the nine shots he faced. Maxime Legace surrendered three of the four goals Landon Bow earned the win in his AHL debut with 35 stops on 36 shots.

Next Home Game: Saturday, December 17 vs. Manitoba Moose. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Rockford takes on the Moose on Red Kettle Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
