December 10, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - For the second straight night third periods weren't kind to the Albany Devils. Tied 1-1 after 40 minutes, the Providence Bruins produced two goals en route to a 3-1 victory against Albany Saturday at Times Union Center. The Devils, who lost 4-2 at Syracuse after allowing three in the third, move to 13-11-0-1. The Bruins extend their point streak to 11 games (7-0-2-2) and improve to 11-6-4-3.
After Providence's Peter Cehlarik opened the scoring with a power-play goal with one minute remaining in the first, Blake Pietila tied the game at 11:29 of the second period. Blake Coleman created a turnover in the offensive zone and Pietila found the loose puck in front of the net. He sent a wrister past goaltender Malcolm Subban for his third goal against the Bruins this season.
In the third, the Bruins' Wayne Simpson - a former Union College standout - netted the game-winner with a power-play goal at 7:58. Jordan Szwarz gave Providence a two-goal advantage at 13:11 to produce the final result.
Ken Appleby made 23 saves on 26 shots in his second straight start. Subban registered 27 saves on 28 shots for his second win of the season.
Next up, the Devils will look to end their three-game slide when they travel to face the Utica Comets Wednesday for a 7 pm puck drop at Utica Auditorium.
