P-Bruins Week in Review
March 6, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The weekend flew by for the Providence Bruins, starting the month of March with a three-in-three weekend in which they took four of six points. The regular season concludes in six weeks, and the P-Bruins remain in great shape to earn a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs for a sixth straight year. With a record of 34-19-3-2 and 73 points the team remains in third place in the Atlantic Division and continues to have the fifth best record in the Eastern Conference.
The P-Bruins kicked off their weekend Friday by defeating the Charlotte Checkers 6-3 in their first meeting at the Dunk since 2011. With the game tied midway through the third, Providence exploded for a season-best four goals in the period including three in a span of 3:05. Riding that momentum into Hartford, the Providence offense dominated yet again with a 6-2 pounding of the Wolf Pack Saturday night. Springfield silenced that attack Sunday at the Dunk, as Harri Sateri and the Thunderbirds handed the P-Bruins their third shutout of the season 2-0.
McIntyre's stats continue to improve after starting two of the three games this weekend. He now has 38 games played and holds a record of 20-12-4 with a 2.43 GAA. He stopped 59 of 63 shots over the weekend, winning on Friday while being the tough-luck loser on Sunday. Saturday night at the XL Center, Jordan Binnington earned his 13th win of the season by stopping 31 of 33 shots and shutting out the Wolf Pack for the first 52 minutes of the game. He currently sits third in the league with a 2.02 GAA and fourth in save percentage at 92.7%. This goaltending duo has been getting the job done all season for the P-Bruins, as Providence has allowed the second fewest goals in the AHL at 138.
Kenny Agostino led the club with four points over the weekend, scoring two points on both Friday and Saturday. The team's nine goals over this past weekend were spread out between Agostino, Colton Hargrove, Tommy Cross, Adam Payerl, Ryan Fitzgerald and Zach Senyshyn. Agostino, Cross and Payerl led the team with two goals each over the course of the three games. Czarnik continues to lead the team with 50 points, a total that is good for fifth most in the AHL. Jordan Szwarz remains the leader with 17 goals, but his +28 rating leads all forwards in the AHL.
The P-Bruins now hit the road and head North for a three-game road trip. They make their first ever visit to Laval tomorrow night as they take on the Rocket at 7:30pm. The team faces off against Rochester at 7:05pm on Friday night before heading back over the border to meet the East leading Toronto Marlies at 4pm Saturday.
