Manitoba Moose News Release

Saturday, March 3: Iowa 4 at Manitoba 5 OT

A pair of goals from Michael Spacek along with tallies from Brendan Lemieux and Cam Maclise seemed to have the Moose in the driver seat going to the third against the WIld on Saturday. Iowa had other ideas as the visitors stormed back with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the final frame to force overtime. Lemieux's second of the night, coming on the power play, won the game with nine seconds remaining in the extra frame.

Sunday, March 4: Iowa 4 at Manitoba 3

After the Moose opened the scoring courtesy of Peter Stoykewych and held a 2-1 lead thanks to Sami Niku, the Wild again scored three unanswered to take a 4-2 lead. Buddy Robinson got the Moose back within one in the third period, but the comeback bid fell short as the Moose closed out their home stand with a 4-3 loss.

We Have a Trade to Announce

The Moose announced today the team has completed a trade with the Cleveland Monsters to acquire forward Bobby MacIntyre in exchange for forward Kale Kessy. MacIntyre, 21, has played the bulk of the season with Manitoba's ECHL affiliate, the Jacksonville Icemen, recording 31 points (16G, 15A) in 38 games. He also appeared in five games with Cleveland. MacIntyre is in his first season of pro hockey after five seasons in major junior where he posted 183 points (69G, 114A) in 308 OHL games.

Bad News for Shooters

The Winnipeg Jets announced today the team has reassigned goaltender Michael Hutchinson to the Moose. The 2018 AHL All-Star has made 21 appearances with a

15-2-4 record, supported by a 1.95 GAA (2nd - AHL) and a league-best 0.942 SV%. Hutchinson was named the CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month in both November and December. The Barrie, Ont. native was 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and 0.933 SV% in two starts with the Jets.

Niku at the Top

Sami Niku starts the week as the leading scorer among AHL defencemen. The rookie defender has 41 points (11G, 30A) in 58 games this season. His 11 goals are tied for fourth among league blue-liners, and he is second in assists. Niku also features the best plus/minus rating out of the top five scoring defencemen at +12.

Moose Milestones

It was a big weekend for milestones throughout the Moose lineup. Patrice Cormier played the 400th game of his AHL career on Saturday, tallying an assist in the Moose win. Mike Sgarbossa played the 300th game of his AHL career in Sunday's game. Meanwhile, Brody Sutter recorded the 100th AHL point, an assist, in the loss against Iowa.

Community Minded

While the Moose only played two games on the weekend, the team was busy in the community during the week. Moose players spread out around the city, with some heading to Steinbach and Sanford, for the team's Stick to Reading program presented by McNally Robinson Booksellers. Students entered their classrooms into the contest by submitting the top five reasons players should stop by for an afternoon of fun and reading.

The team also launched its annual Autism Awareness Campaign, presented by Red River Co-op. As in past seasons, the Moose will sell autographed player puzzles on the concourse of Bell MTS Place at March home games, as well as Monday, March 5, 2018.
