Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins continued their 2004 pre-season slate of games on Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Rink in West Springfield, Massachusetts, scoring two late third period goals to take a 4-3 decision from the Springfield Falcons. The Bruins outshot Springfield, 17-7 in the third period, and 35-23 in the game overall.
Bruin forward Ben Guite scored his first two goals of the pre-season, including the game-winner with one minute left on the clock. The winning goal came 45 seconds after center Kris Vernarsky tied the game on his second goal of the pre-season, and second in as many nights. Left wing Derek Bekar also scored, his first as a Bruin. Vernarsky's and Bekar's goals each came on the power play.
Goaltender Hannu Toivonen played the whole game in his pre-season debut, stopping 20 of the 23 shots he faced.
