
Pirates Release Two Players From Training Camp Roster

PORTLAND, ME â The Portland Pirates reduced their training camp roster to 27 players today by releasing two players. The announcement was today made by Pirates Head Coach Tim Army after the Pirates 3-2 win last night in exhibition play versus the Providence Bruins.
The Pirates have released defenseman Mark Ardelan and goaltender Derek Gustafson.
Ardelan did not play in last night's game. He played in two games during the Pirates exhibition schedule and recorded one goal and one assist. Gustafson appeared in the Pirates 6-2 win over Providence on Wednesday, and made seven saves in between the pipes and did not allow a goal.
Ardelan will report to South Carolina (ECHL) for camp, while Gustafson will play with Adirondack (UHL).
The Pirates roster now stands at 27 players. The Portland Pirates roster is made up of two goaltenders, nine defenseman and 16 forwards.
Portland finished the exhibition schedule with a perfect record of 4-0, including two wins over Manchester and two victories against Providence.
In the four exhibition games, the Pirates scored a combined 17 goals in those contests. During the Pirates entire exhibition schedule, they only trailed their opponents for just 1:49, which came last night when the Bruins scored the first goal of the game.
The Pirates next game is the season opener on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 7:05pm, Hockey Night in Portland, at the Cumberland County Civic Center. On opening night, the first 5,000 fans will receive an official Pirates Magnetic Schedule from Paul G. White Tile Co. Inc. and the Pirates.
