
P-Bruins Fall to Wolf Pack in Shootout 3-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack in a shootout 3-2 Sunday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Ben Guite and Jay Leach. The P-Bruins are now 36-27-1-5 on the season, 78 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
After a scoreless opening period the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 4:11 mark of the second period. Guite shot the puck while skating down the right side of the ice and it got between Hartford goaltender Robert Gherson and the right post. Leach and Scott Ford had the assists. The Wolf Pack tied the game at one while on an abbreviated power play. Jarkko Immonen tipped the puck in front of the net past Providence netminder Derek Gustafson on a shot from Brad Smyth. Chad Wiseman had the second assist. Providence went into the second intermission leading 2-1 as Jeremy Reich passed to puck to Jason MacDonald skating down the right wing. MacDonald fed Leach back door and he flipped the puck into the net to send the P-Bruins into the locker room with the lead.
In the third period Hartford scored an even strength goal at the 14:32 mark to force overtime. Dwight Helminen picked up his 28th goal of the season, while Nigel Dawes and Hugh Jessiman had the assists.
In overtime the P-Bruins had a power play opportunity, but were unable to score as the game went into a shootout. In the shootout Immonen and Wiseman had goals through the first five rounds for the Wolf Pack, while Kris Versteeg and David Lundbohm had goals for the P-Bruins. In round six, Immonen scored his second goal of the shootout and it turned out to be the game winner as the Wolf Pack went on to the 3-2 shootout victory.
Gustafson stopped 26 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Gherson stopped 31 of 33 shots for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins went 0 for 8 on the power play, while Hartford was 1 for 3 on the man advantage.
The P-Bruins hit the road Wednesday, March 29 versus the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 31 versus the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins head back on the road Saturday, April 1 versus the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard at 7:05 p.m. and wrap up next weekend at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, April 2 versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Tickets for all P-Bruins regular season home games are available online at providencebruins.com, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office and at all TicketMaster outlets.
