
Sound Tigers Win 5-2 In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Springfield Falcons 5-2 on the road Sunday to finish a stretch of three road games in less than three days with a 2-0-0-1 record.
With Sunday's win, the Sound Tigers also finished a stretch of seven straight road games with a 4-2-0-1 mark while pulling to within one point of the third-place Norfolk Admirals and opening up an 11-point lead on the fifth place Binghamton Senators in the race for the four playoff spots in the AHL's East Division. The Sound Tigers are now 36-38-4-3 with 79 points.
The Sound Tigers took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 43 seconds apart late in the first period as David Masse scored his second goal in as many games and 17th of the season on a four-on-three power play at 16:55 off assists from Allan Rourke and Matt Koalska, and Masi Marjamaki notched his eighth of the year off an assist from Mike Omicioli at 17:38. Omicioli has registered assists in all three games while on a tryout contract with the Sound Tigers this weekend. Masse has scored in five of the last six games.
Springfield answered with a pair of power-play goal in the middle frame to tie the score at 2-2. Jason Jaspers redirected a Todd Rohloff shot on a major advantage for his 24th of the season at 1:14 with Dan Cavanaugh collecting the other helper, and Marek Kvapil fired home the rebound of a Zdenek Blatny shot that hit the post for his 17th of the year at 14:34 with Norm Milley also assisting on the equalizer.
After being outshot 18-2 in the second period and 31-14 through the first 40 minutes of play, the Sound Tigers summoned the energy to put the game away with a trio of third-period goals. Omicioli notched his first as a Sound Tiger off assists from Evgeny Tunik and Joe Tallari for the eventual game-winner at 4:42. Allan Rourke made it 3-2 with his second in as many games and ninth of the season, on the power play, off assists from Omicioli and Chris Thompson at 9:21. Thompson then finished the scoring at 13:39 with his second of the season, and of his AHL career, off an assist from Collins, who is now on a six-game assist streak.
Omicioli was the first star of the game with three points. Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz made 39 saves to earn the second star. Rourke was the third star with a goal and an assist. Dubielewicz stopped 113 of 119 shots in three games this weekend and is unbeaten-in-regulation in his last five appearances at 4-0-0-1.
Jonathan Boutin took the loss with 16 saves for the Falcons who had a 41-21 shots on goal advantage. The Sound Tigers were 2 for 4 on the power play while Springfield was 2 for 6.
The Sound Tigers will play their first home game in more than three weeks when they return to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard this Wednesday, March 29th to the Hershey Bears at 7:05 p.m.
