Stars shutout San Antonio

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars hosted the San Antonio Rampage at Wells Fargo Arena in Downtown Des Moines on Sunday afternoon. Coming off a 4-3 win over Houston on Saturday night, the Stars continued their offensive prowess, again posting four goals, this time in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Rampage. Iowa is now just five points behind Omaha for the final playoff spot with one game-in-hand and one head-to-head match-up.
Iowa opened the scoring at 9:49 of the first period when rookie Loui Eriksson netted his team-leading 23rd of the season. Eriksson's goal came when he batted the puck out of mid-air in front of Scott Stirling's net. Picking-up an assist on the goal, Toby Petersen pushed his point-streak to six games. Petersen has two goals and six assists in that span.
Eriksson registered his second point of the night when he assisted on Mario Scalzo's power-play goal at 4:57 of the second period. Scalzo then picked-up his second point when he recorded the primary assist on Krys Barch's power-play goal. Both Scalzo's and Barch's goals came with Iowa on a five-minute major power-play.
Marius Holtet closed-out the scoring with his ninth of the season with :52 seconds left in the game. Dan Jancevski and Junior Lessard notched their second assists of the evening. With 49 shots in the game, the Stars set a new franchise record for most shots in a period, 21 in the first, while the 49 total shots was also a new record.
Goaltender Dan Ellis made 23 saves, including 11 in the third period. The third year netminder registered his second shutout of the season and the Stars fifth overall.

STARS NEXT GAMES: The Iowa Stars welcome the San Antonio Rampage to Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night.
