Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Tony Voce had a hand in every goal as the Philadelphia Phantoms beat the Portland Pirates on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum, 4-1. The Philadelphia native assisted on the first two markers and then scored two power play goals of his own for the four- point night.
The Phantoms bagged their first of four power play goals just 1:28 into the match. Jim Campbell was parked to the left of flopping goaltender Jani Hurme and shelved a rebound. The goal was the fastest of the season to open a game for Philadelphia, eclipsing Voce's opening salvo just two nights earlier.
Voce did assist on the goal, extending his point streak to six games, while Campbell grabbed his eighth goal in a Phantoms uniform.
The Pirates tied the game at the six-minute mark, with Zenon Konopka picking the puck away from Phantoms backstop Martin Houle. Philadelphia, however, reclaimed their lead for good just 43 seconds later.
Voce saucered a perfect circle-to-circle feed to Matt Ellison. Ellison's one-timer snuck inside the left post for the 2-1 lead. Marc Cavosie farmed his second assist of the night on the Phantoms second power play of the game.
The score remained that way until the final period.
As two Pirates sat in the penalty box, Voce tapped in a short put for the 3-1 lead. Ellison held the puck on a string at the near post and then fed Voce across the crease for his 20th of the season and team leading 11th on the power play.
Just 1:07 later, and with the Phantoms still on the power play, Voce busted through blue line traffic. He finished top shelf, glove side for the 4-1 final.
Voce tied a season record for points in a game, equaling his own high water mark when he scored four goals back on February 11 in Chicago. The Phantoms, meanwhile, matched a single game high this season for power play goals.
"We need him to have games like that," commented Phantoms bench boss John Stevens on Voce. "We really need him to take charge for us offensively and lead the way."
Voce has nine points during his six game scoring streak: 6(4/5/9) and 14 points during his run of points in 10 of his last 11 games: 11(5/9/14). The Phantoms ran their power play goal scoring streak to six games and are 11-36 during that time (30.56%)
The Phantoms are off until Wednesday when they host the Norfolk Admirals in a 7:05 PM go. As always, kids tickets for all Phantoms games are just $8.00. Purchase online at phantomshockey.com or to charge by phone, call (215) 336-2000, (856) 338-9000 or (302) 984-2000.
