
P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 5-4

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-4 Saturday evening at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Maxime Sauve, Jeremy Reich, Trent Whitfield and Zach Hamill. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sundayat 4:05 p.m. for MetLife Auto and Home Plush Snoopy Night against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 9:07 mark of the opening period. David Laliberte caused a turnover behind the Pirates net and passed the puck toward the crease where Sauve picked it up and scored his 19th goal of the season. Eight seconds later the Pirates tied the game at one. Luke Adamtallied his 24 th goal of the season, while Paul Byron and Corey Tropp recorded the assists. Portland took its first lead of the game at the 12:13 mark. Marc-Andre Gragnani netted his tenth goal of the season, while Byron and Adam picked up the assists. The Pirates led 2-1 going into the first intermission.
Providence tied the game at two at the 3:03 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Jordan Caron held the puck along the boards and left it for Jamie Arniel. He found Reich in front of the net, who scored his 13th goal of the season. Portland retook the lead at the 17:33 mark. Dennis McCauley scored his tenth goal of the season, while Tropp and Mark Voakeshad the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at three, while shorthanded at the 18:28 mark. Whitfield stole the puck at his own blue line and skate the length of the ice before slipping the puck into the net for his 11th goal of the season. The game went into the second intermission tied at three.
Portland made it 4-3 at the 10:18 mark of the third period. Byron tallied his 18th goal of the season, while Adam and Tropp grabbed the assists. Providence once again battled back to tie the game. At the 13:27 mark Caron passed the puck up ahead to Sauve, who carried the puck into the zone and passed it towards the goal. Hamill picked it up there and tossed it into the net top shelf for his eighth goal of the season. The Pirates took the lead for good at the 18:38 mark, while on a two-man advantage. Colin Stuart netted his 14th goal of the season, with Gragnani and T.J. Brennan getting the assists. The Pirates went onto the 5-4 victory.
Anton Khudobin stopped 20 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Jakaitis made 45 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
