P-Bruins fall in Portland

The Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates faced off in the ninth game of their 10-game season series on Saturday night in Maine, with the Pirates scoring three goals, including a shorthanded empty netter, in the third period to break a scoreless tie and take a 3-0 decision. The Bruins are now 34-27-10-4 (82 points) on the season, and are three points away from clinching a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in the 12-year history of the franchise.

Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced, and is 15-16-4 on the year.

The Bruins return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
