Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies saw their playoff hopes edge on the side of slim on Saturday night when they fell to the San Antonio Rampage for the second straight night and for the seventh time in nine games by a final score of 3-1. The loss makes the last three games for Utah must-wins and also puts them in the mercy of other teams as they'll need help in reaching the Calder Cup Playoffs.

San Antonio started the scoring with two first period goals the first on a three-on-two break led by Matt Dzieduszycki who found Ryan Jardine for a wrap-around shot and his sixth goal of the season. Josh Olson would add a goal in the periods final 15 seconds giving Travis Scott and the Rampage a 2-0 lead, all that they would need. Utah outshot the Grizzlies 10-7 in the period.

The next scoring would come in the third period when Lee Goren knocked one past Dan Ellis giving San Antonio a 3-0 lead. Utah would pull the goalie in the final three minutes and would take advantage as Zenon Konopka knocking a rebound past Scott after a shot by Dan Jancevksi. Barrett Heisten also drew an assist. Utah would keep the extra skater for the remainder of the game but couldn't get anything else past Scott falling 3-1.

Utah finished the game outshooting the Rampage 34-22 but Scott earned first star honors making 33 saves in the game earning his 24th win of the season.

The Grizzlies now trail Cincinnati by six points with three games remaining making the path clear that Utah needs to win all three remaining games and Cincy has to lose all three of their remaining game to move the Grizzlies past the Ducks. Another challenge is the Rampage now who have a one point lead on the Grizzlies with three games in hand.

Utah plays Milwaukee on Wednesday night, their final regular season home game of the year.
