Cleveland Barons News Release

HAMILTON, ONT – Nolan Schaefer's 25-save shutout performance lifted the Barons to a 1-0 win Saturday night at Hamilton. Marcel Goc scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season late in the second period in what was a defensive chess match of a hockey game.

The Barons once again outplayed their opponent in the opening period but didn't have anything to show for their efforts as far as the scoreboard is concerned. Shane Joseph and Jesse Fibiger both hit the post as the Barons managed the best scoring chances of the stanza. Nolan Schaefer made six saves for the Barons and J.F. Damphousse handled all 10 of the Barons shots for a scoreless period of play.

The only goal of the period was scored while the teams' skated four-on-four. With only 1:23 remaining in the second period Marcel Goc converted a wrap around attempt from behind the Hamilton goal for his 14th goal of the year. Jon DiSalvatore and Christian Ehrhoff assisted on the goal for a 1-0 lead. The goal marked the eighth consecutive game that the Barons scored the first goal of the action.

Nolan Schaefer won his second consecutive game for the Barons with 10 third period saves. The second shutout of Schaefer's career game the Barons their 35th win of the year and just their third win at Hamilton in franchise history.

The Barons return to home ice tomorrow night to take on the Syracuse Crunch at 5 O'Clock. Parma native Dan Fritsche will headline the Crunch's roster. All the action will be heard live by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net. Tickets are available through the Barons web site or at the Gund Arena Box Office.
