P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 3-2 in Shootout

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 in a shootout Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Alexander Khokhlachev and Mike Moore scored in regulation, while Anthony Camara and Seth Griffith tallied in the shootout. Malcolm Subban made 28 saves in regulation for the victory.

In the first period, the P-Bruins best chance of the period came early when Matt Lindblad flew up the wing and took a hard wrist shot at Hartford goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris who had to make a quick save when the puck trickled out for a rebound. Tyler Randell tried to flip it past Grumet-Morris but was unsuccessful. The game went into the first intermission scoreless.

The P-Bruins took the 1-0 lead early in the second period at the 2:14 mark. Seth Griffith made a slick pass from the blue line to Justin Florek whose hard wrist shot rebounded off Grumet-Morris and onto the stick of Khokhlachev who capitalized with his 13th goal of the season. Hartford tied the game late in the third period at the 19:05 mark when Oscar Lindberg took a long shot that was tipped in by Michael Haley. Shawn O'Donnell had the second assist as the game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third period, the P-Bruins got off to another strong start attacking the Hartford net. However, the Wolf Pack managed to gain the 2-1 lead when J.T. Miller skated down the wing and made a slick pass to Ryan Bourque who slide the puck pass Subban for his 13th goal this season at the 5:00 mark. The P-Bruins tied the game at the 14:59 mark when Moore got a rebound from an initial shot by Griffith, which trickled out for Moore who capitalize at the 14:59 mark. Khokhlachev had the second assist while Moore extended his goal streak to four games and also tallied his fifth goal this season. The game went into overtime tied at two.

In overtime, the P-Bruins and the Wolf Pack traded quality scoring opportunities. Khokhlachev and Griffith had a 2-on-1 opportunity with seconds left, however the puck slid wide of the goal crease as the game went into a shootout.

After a scoreless first round in the shootout, Camara tallied in the second round to give the P-Bruins the lead. Neither team scored in the third round before Griffith flipped a shot past Grumet-Morris for the shootout winner.

Subban stopped 28 of 30 shots in regulation and all four shots in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while Grumet-Morris made 32 saves in regulation and two saves in the shootout for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins go on a two-game road trip next week, first to take on the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on Saturday at 7:05pm and then to Bridgeport to face the Sound Tigers on Sunday at 3:00pm. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, February 28, at 7:05pm for a match-up against Bridgeport.
