Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Binghamton Senators 4-3 Sunday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins scored all four of their goals on the power play by Ben Walter, David Lundbohm, Zdenek Blatny and Nathan Robinson. The P-Bruins are now on a seven game home winning streak.
The P-Bruins scored the lone goal of the opening period only 1:35 into the game. With Providence on the power play Pascal Pelletier worked the puck down the right wing to Robinson who sent a pass in front of the net to Walter. Senators goaltender Kelly Guard was caught on the wrong side of the crease as Walter scored to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Providence began the second period on the power play and this time it was Lundbohm tallying to put the P-Bruins on top 2-0. Blatny had the puck down low and passed it half way up the right board to Tyler Redenbach. He sent a pass far left circle to Lundbohm who scored upper right corner. With the P-Bruins back on the power play it was the Senators turn as Danny Bois made a steal at the right point and fed the puck to Gregg Johnson in the right circle. Johnson shot the puck off of Providence goaltender Tim Thomas and into the net to cut the P-Bruins lead to 2-1. The P-Bruins regained a two goal advantage at the 8:15 mark of the second period on a Blatny power play goal set up by Redenbach and Michael Schutte. With time winding down in the second period the Senators scored once more at the 18:15 mark from Jeff Heerema, assisted by Jan Platil and Grant Potulny as Providence went into the second intermission up 3-2.
On their seventh power play of the game the P-Bruins scored once again, this time at the 6:17 mark of the third period. Thomas worked the puck up the ice quickly to Jay Leach who fed Robinson cutting into the zone. Robinson took a shot from the left circle and beat Guard to put the P-Bruins up by two. With four minutes left in regulation Binghamton cut the lead to one when Bois scored, assisted by Filip Novak and Potulny. For the final four minutes of the game the Senators peppered Thomas with shots including two minutes on the power play, but the P-Bruins defense and Thomas was solid to hold on for a 4-3 victory.
With the win, the P-Bruins improve to 19-14-1-1 on the season, 40 points and remain in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Thomas stopped 25 of 28 shots for the P-Bruins, while Guard stopped 23 of 27 shots for the Senators. The P-Bruins were 4 for 7 on the power play, while Binghamton was 0 for 5 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins hit the road for four straight games Wednesday, January 11 versus the Albany River Rats, Friday, January 13 at the Portland Pirates, Saturday, January 14 against the Lowell Lock Monsters and Sunday, January 15 at the Manchester Monarchs.
