Rosemont, IL - The Chicago Wolves built a 4-1 lead in the second period and held off a rally by the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights to win 6-3 on Sunday night at Allstate Arena. Justin Taylor had a goal and an assist for the Knights in the loss.

The Wolves earned the lead just one-thirty into the first period when Ramzi Abid's shot ricocheted to defenseman Braydon Coburn who was crashing the net. He knocked home his fourth of the season.

The Knights tied the game on the powerplay when Taylor circled out from behind the net and tucked a backhander under goalie Steve Shields for his eighth goal of the year.

Chicago retook the lead later in the period when Brian Maloney tried to stuff the puck in on a wrap-around shot. Brent Krahn made the save, but Colin Stewart swept home the rebound to give Chicago the 2-1 lead after one.

The Wolves stretched their lead with two goals in the first ten minutes of the second. First, Mark Popovic scored a powerplay goal on blast from the right point to make it 3-1. The goal spelled the end of the night for Krahn who allowed three goals on eight shots.

Center Brad Schell, just recalled from the ECHL, then scored on a tip of a shot by Coburn that just trickled across the goal line. It was his first AHL goal, and it gave the Wolves a 4-1 lead.

The Knights got a lift from killing off a five minute major to Brandon Prust. They took advantage not long after when Tomi Maki set up Derek Couture for his second goal of the season. The Knights trailed 4-2 after two.

Omaha's comeback bid got a big boost early in the third period when Dave Moss fed Eric Nystrom for a bullet that beat Shields just inside the near post. That goal, Nystrom's fifth of the year, drew the Knights to within 4-3.

But the Wolves got a powerplay tally from Nick Naumenko and an empty net goal from Karl Stewart to win 6-3. It's their first win in their last five games against the Knights. Curtis McElhinney suffered the loss in goal allowing two goals on 16 shots.

The Knights are now 16-16-1-7. After beating the Wolves 3-1 on Friday in Omaha, the Knights lost both road games of the three-in-three weekend to end up 1-2-0-0.
