
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 6-5 in a Shootout

Portland, ME - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 6-5 Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Brad Marchand, Matt Lashoff and three goals from Mikko Lehtonen. In the shootout the P-Bruins got goals from Lehtonen and Wacey Rabbit. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Manitoba Moose at 4:05 p.m. for Kid's Hat Night.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead at the 2:39 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Mark Mancari tallied his 21st goal of the season, with Mathieu Darche and Mike Weber recording the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 4:29 mark. Zach Hamill sent the puck around the boards to Mikko Lehtonen in the corner. He sent the puck to the slot where Marchand awaited and scored his 12th goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 8:35 mark. Hamill sent the puck to Lashoff at the high slot and he netted his fifth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Portland tied the game at two at the 29 second mark of the second period. Marc-Andre Gragnani netted his fifth goal of the season, while Mike Kostka and Tim Kennedy grabbing the assists. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 14:23 mark, while on the power play. Hamill had the puck along the right boards and sent it to Johnny Boychuk at the blue line. He found Lehtonen in the left face off circle, who tallied his 17th goal of the season. With time about to expire in the second period the P-Bruins grabbed a two goal advantage at the 19:59 mark. Brad Marchand passed the puck from the left corner to a wide open Lehtonen in the right face off circle. He netted his second goal of the game and 18th of the season. Providence went into the second intermission leading 4-2.
In the third period, Portland pulled within a goal at the 5:25 mark, while on the power play. Darche netted his 16th goal of the season, with Kennedy picking up the lone assist. Providence retook its two goal advantage at the 13:00 mark. Hamill sent the puck down low to Marchand who tossed the puck in front of the net. Lehtonen grabbed the loose puck to score his third goal of the game and 19th of the season. The Pirates netted their third power play goal of the game at the 15:21 mark. Kennedy scored his ninth goal of the season, while Gragnani and Darche had the assists. Portland tied the game at five at the 18:50 mark. Matt MacDonald scored his first goal of the season with Aaron Slattengren and Kennedy getting the assists. The game went into overtime tied at five.
After a scoreless overtime, Lehtonen scored in the second round of the shootout to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 advantage. In round three Mancari tied the shootout at one before Rabbit scored in round four. After Slattengren was unable to capitalize in round five the P-Bruins went on to the 6-5 shootout victory.
Kevin Nastiuk stopped 34 of 39 shots for the P-Bruins in regulation and Tuukka Rask stopped four of five shots in the shootout, while Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves in regulation and two saves in the shootout for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.
