San Antonio Rampage News Release
Moline, IL - The Quad City Flames burned the Rampage 7-3 in a Valentine's Day spectacular Saturday night at the I Wireless Center.
Kevin Porter recorded his third goal in as many games to get the Rampage on the board first with a four-on-four even strength goal 5:40 into the opening frame. Kyle Turris was credited with the assist marking his fourth point in two games since joining the Rampage on Thursday.
Flames defenseman Matt Pelech, who was taken down on a breakaway, scored on his penalty shot against Rampage goaltender Josh Tordjman at the 6:21 mark in the first period to tie the score at 1-1.
The second period would prove to be challenging for the Rampage after a rough travel day starting off in Providence, Rhode Island. The Flames out shot the Rampage 14-7 in the period, however the IceHogs converted six of those shots into goals. The Flames' six goals tied a franchise mark for the Rampage in which the last time an opponent scored six goals in a period was October 23, 2003 vs. Cleveland in the third period.
Less than two minutes into the middle frame, the Flames started their rampage with a Cam Cunning goal, his third of the season, with assists from Carson Germyn and Ryan Wilson at the 1:54 mark. Seventeen seconds later Germyn and Wilson helped Kris Chucko give the Flames a 3-1 advantage.
After Chucko's goal, Rampage Head Coach Greg Ireland opted to pull Tordjman and put Al Montoya in net. Thirty seconds lapsed and the Flames had a 4-1 advantage when Warren Peters scored at the 2:41 mark. Assists were credited to Brad Cole and Brett Sutter. The Flames tallied three goals in a 47-second span against two separate Rampage goaltenders.
David Van der Gulik extended the Flames' lead to 5-1 at the 6:36 mark in the second period with a shot from the bottom left circle as Germyn and Cunning were credited with the helpers.
Rampage right wing Simon Ferguson caught a breakaway and went top shelf against Flames goaltender Kevin Lalande at the 11:19 mark to record his second goal in as many games. Garth Murray was credited with the assist after tipping a Flames pass to Ferguson.
The Flames posted their sixth goal in the second frame when Chucko posted his second goal of the night at the 16:36 mark to give Quad City a 6-2 edge. However, with only three seconds left Germyn recorded his fifth point of the night, a team record, with a high glove side shot against Montoya to give the Flames a 7-2 advantage heading into the final frame.
After a fiery second frame for the Flames, the Rampage was the only team to score in the closing period. Rampage rookie Brett MacLean tallied his 17th goal of the season when he was able to poke the puck out from under Lalande's pads and find the back of the net 2:14 into the third period cutting the Flames lead to 7-3. Francis Lessard was credited with the assist, his third of the season.
The Rampage own a 23-31-2-2 record and are now tied with Quad City at 50 points apiece sitting at the bottom of the West Division standings. They will continue their month-long road trip visiting the Rockford IceHogs on Monday at 7 p.m. at Rockford MetroCentre.
