P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 6-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 6-2 Sunday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Tyler Redenbach, Ben Guite, Pascal Pelletier, David Lundbohm and two from Jason MacDonald. The P-Bruins are now 39-28-1-5 on the season, 84 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead on an even strength goal at the 5:53 mark of the opening period. Guite backhanded the puck from behind the net into the slot where it landed on the stick of MacDonald, who put the puck over the left shoulder of Springfield goaltender Gerald Coleman and into the net. Providence took a 2-0 lead at the 10:01 mark of the period on a power play goal. Lundbohm sent a cross ice pass to Redenbach who put the puck past Coleman from the right face off circle. Springfield bounced back with a 5-on-3 goal at the 12:30 mark from Ryan Vesce. P.J. Atherton and Dan Cavanaugh had the assists.

In the second period the P-Bruins scored three times to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. The P-Bruins went on a 5-on-3 power play and Guite scored at the 5:19 mark on a shot from just inside the blue line. Ben Walter and Jonathan Sigalet had the assists. MacDonald tallied his second goal of the game at the 15:25 mark. Redenbach fed him the puck in the slot and MacDonald went five hole on Coleman. At the 18:13 mark Pelletier got a pass from Guite right outside of the crease and snuck the puck between Coleman and the right post. Lundbohm had the second assist.

In the third period, the P-Bruins took a 6-1 lead when Lundbohm scored even strength at the 1:14 mark with Pelletier getting the lone assists. The Falcons scored late in the period with 1:19 left in the game. Jason Jaspers had the goal, while Marek Kvapil and Zdenek Blatny had the assists. The P-Bruins went on to the 6-2 victory and pulled within three points of the third place Manchester Monarchs with a game in hand and one head-to-head match-up remaining.

Gustafson stopped 21 of 23 shots for the P-Bruins, while Coleman stopped 29 of 35 shots for the Falcons. The P-Bruins went 2 for 5 on the power play, while Springfield was 1 for 2 on the man advantage.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, April 7 versus the River Rats at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive team photos courtesy of True Value, ABC6 and University Orthopedics.
