Iowa Chops News Release

CLEVELAND, OH - The Iowa Stars and Cleveland Barons met for the second time in as many days on Sunday afternoon at National City Rink at Quicken Loans Arena. Using shootout goals by Loui Eriksson and Junior Lessard, the Stars posted their third win in three nights and their sixth straight win in a 2-1 shootout win over Cleveland. The win moves Iowa into a tie with the Omaha Knights for fourth place and the final playoff spot in the West Division. Iowa plays in Omaha on Friday, April 7th.

Despite out-shooting the Barons 15-10 in the first period, the Stars found themselves down 1-0 when Glenn Olson was credited with the game's first goal. It was Olson's first goal as a professional.

Rookie forward Loui Eriksson was credited with his 25th goal of the season when the puck deflected off of his skate into Nolan Schaefer's net. The goal gives Eriksson a six-game points-streak and points in nine of his last 10 games. He has six goals and eight assists in those nine games: 9(6/8/14). Junior Lessard and Toby Petersen picked-up the assists.

After a scoreless third period that saw the Stars have just five shots and the Barons only four, the game went into overtime. Iowa has now skated in 16 overtime games this season. Iowa out-shot the Barons 5-1 in the extra session but were unable to solve Nolan Schaefer.

For the 14th time this season, the Stars needed a shootout to decide the winner. Loui Eriksson scored in the second round and Junior Lessard scored in the fourth round of the shootout and Mike Smith stopped 4 of 5 in the shootout to help give Iowa the much needed second point.

Smith finished with 22 saves and his 21st win of the season.
