Owlz Win Final Game of Series

September 3, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

Anchored by a great pitching performance by starter Aaron Tullo, the Orem Owlz gritted their teeth and pulled out a victory in the final game of the Casper Series, 1-0.

Tullo pitched five shutout innings of three hit baseball, striking out a season high eight batters and improved his record to 2-1 on the season with a 0.93 ERA.

The Owlz scored their lone run in the bottom of the third innings. After a leadoff single by Rolando Gomez, two quick outs would bring up Andrew Heid. Mr. Consistent, Heid, hit a single to left field putting runners on the corners. Heid finished the game 3-for-4. The next batter Travis Witherspoon worked a walk to load the bases. With Jake Rife batting, a passed ball scored Gomez from third giving Orem the one run lead.

Relief pitcher Brian Diemer came into the game in the sixth and pitched three solid innings limiting the explosive Casper offense to only 2 hits.

In the top of the ninth, closer Daniel Tillman came in to close out the game. Tillman got two quick outs on a ground out and a strike out. Juan Crousset hit a 2-out single up the middle putting the tying run on base, but with Brett Tanos batting, Crousset was caught stealing for the final out. The Owlz are last in the Pioneer League throwing out just under 20 percent of would be base stealers, but starting catcher Hampton Tignor threw out three in the game, including the final out. Tillman notched his ninth save on the year.

The Owlz now hold a game and a half lead on Casper in the wild card race.

Orem will travel to Idaho Falls on Friday to start a three game series with the Chukars. First pitch is at 7:05.
