September 3, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MT - The Missoula Osprey and Billings Mustangs essentially played a doubleheader on Thursday as they had their suspended game go extra innings in front of 1,966 fans at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
Adam Eaton singled with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning to plate Javan Williams with the winning run in the 7-6 nail-biting Osprey win over the Mustangs in the game suspended from Wednesday due to rain. The Mustangs bounced back and scored a seventh-inning run to snap a tie and win 2-1 in the regularly-scheduled contest.
Williams had five of Missoula's 17 hits, and Eaton's clutch hit made a winner out of Blake Cooper (1-0), who pitched a scoreless top of the 10th to pick up his first professional win. Williams added three RBIs, while Raul Navarro chipped in with a 4-for-5, RBI effort. Eaton finished with three hits and Matt Helm homered and singled for the Osprey.
In the seven-inning game that followed, both teams struggled to find offense, as the teams each had four hits apiece. Navarro hit a solo home run, while Eaton had two hits to raise his average back to .381, which still leads the Pioneer League.
JR Bradley pitched five solid innings, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning to keep the Mustangs scoreless. Navarro's home run came in the home half of that inning, giving the Osprey a 1-0 lead. However, Billings would score a run in the top of the fifth and scored the game-winner - on an error - off of reliever Jeremy Erben (1-3).
The two teams wrap up their three game series at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Friday. The Osprey will send right-hander Robby Rowland to the mound, and he will oppose Mustang right-hander Stalin Gerson.
The Osprey still have a chance to set a new single-season attendance mark. They will enter Friday's game - complete with a fireworks show - just 6,031 fans shy of breaking the current single-season mark of 86,881.
Fans can purchase tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, by visiting the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
